Nick Stancato on SkepTech

The Secular Student Alliance is very happy to support SkepTech for numerous reasons. It might be one of the most impressive student-run conferences that we have supported this year. We are very proud to see that the organizers have a relevant and focused subject area. Innovation and technology are important parts of the secular movement, especially among secular students. Technology is what allows non-believers to find each other, even when they might feel isolated in their communities; it really has revolutionized the movement.

Campus Atheists, Skeptics, and Humanists (CASH) at University of Minnesota Twin Cities has done a great job preparing for this event.  They have high, but very reasonable, ambitions for the event and an impressive, but realistic, budget.   They are working with the nearby SSA affiliates Secular Student Alliance at St. Cloud University and Secular Student Alliance at St. Olaf University – and we love to see our affiliates collaborating on projects! They have a great web presence, and they were organized enough to have a table at the Secular Student Alliance 2012 Annual Conference – last July! – to draw attention and publicize the event.   This event promises a diverse speaker line-up planned, including a great mix of professional and student speakers who vary in their fame.

We cannot wait to see how successful SkepTech is in shedding light on the intersection of secularism and technology.  If you’re in the anywhere nearby, this is an event you’ll want to be sure to attend!
